Kudos to Steven Moffat and the rest of the brains behind Doctor Who for bucking the trend of filling the title role with ever-younger actors. And it will certainly be interesting to see how the fans react to a Doctor that isn’t a teen heart throb.
The only down side is that the lovely trend on the first edition of this chart has been turned on its head.
One bit of genius found in the long-running BBC hit Doctor Who is that the time traveling lead regenerates into a new being upon death. This gimmick has been used to replace the show’s star with a fresh face ten times since the series first aired in 1963.
A side benefit of this it that it sets up a great chance to look at changing casting choices over time. Not surprisingly, this examination revealed that the actors playing the Doctor keep getting younger.
